Modeling Earth from Atomic to Global Scale: MINERALS

Jacqueline Austermann

Co-Principal Investigator

jacqueline austermann

Jacqueline Austermann is an Associate Professor at Columbia University and a member of the Seismology, Geology, and Tectonophysics Division at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. Her research focuses on sea level changes across timescales—from recent glacial cycles to millions of years ago—to better understand ice mass changes, ice sheet stability, and the rheological properties of Earth’s interior. She also investigates geodynamic and plate tectonic processes, including plate driving forces and the dynamics of the deep Earth.

Dr. Austermann holds a B.Sc. in Physics from Universität Darmstadt, an M.Sc. in Geophysics from LMU Munich, and a Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Sciences from Harvard University. She is the recipient of the 2019 Jason Morgan Early Career Award from the American Geophysical Union and was named a Sloan Research Fellow in 2021.
